Pastoral Care of the Elderly and the Sick
Mary George-Whittle, long time member of our parish, Director of Pastoral Care
at Mohun Hall and a team of other chaplains coordinated The Ohio Chaplains
Association Annual Retreat at Martin dePorres Center at St. Mary of the Springs
in April. The theme was on Sacred Stories…Telling and Listening. Sr. Wanda Smith
was the retreat facilitator and the retreat was attended by chaplains from all
over Ohio. They also held their spring meeting to brainstorm on the various
issues that need to be addressed in our communities/workplaces. In February
2009, Mary also plans on attending the Spiritual Care Summit on HEALTH AND HOPE:
The Hard Reality of Living Intentionally in a Village of Care in Orlando,
Florida. Also, if you would be interested in volunteering with the retired
Sisters and Priests at Mohun Health Care Center, please contact Mary
George-Whittle at 416-6141. They are in need of reading buddies, activity
helpers, hospitality volunteers, etc.
Computer Classes Coming to a Parish Center Near You
Yes, there are many people out there who are unsure of the Internet, or don’t
know where the button is to turn on a computer and for heaven sakes what does a
mouse have to do with computers? Charles Brown, who sings in the choir, is our
technology guru and computer geek of the parish. Charles will conduct a series
of short computer literacy classes coming in the fall in the Parish Center. Read
the bulletin, listen to the announcements and if you are able to check out this
website you probably won’t need this class. Class size will be limited. We’ll
keep you posted and let you know the dates and times.

Parish School of Religion
Children's Church is off to an incredible
start and as Sr. Margaret Hoffman commented, "there is so much energy in
this building." We have over 120 children enrolled. You would know this if
you attend the 11:30 mass. God is good! Amen.
Feed the Hungry
Our Parish School of Religion (Children's Church) is
conducting a can food drive for the hungry. The 5th grade class and their
teacher, Ms. B (Beckerle) went around to all of the classrooms making a
pitch to the students to get involved and help feed the hungry by bringing
in select items. Come and check out "Follow the Feet" in the Parish Center
and you'll find out how our kids are doing on this project. All of the
items will be donated to our very own St. Vincent de Paul Society who have
been inundated with requests in these difficult economic times.
ESL Volunteers Needed
St. Thomas is in need of more volunteer tutors. We have a wait list of
students wanting to learn English. Do you have 1-2 hours on Wednesday
mornings or evenings to commit to teaching an adult learner? All tutors go
through 1 training class to prepare them for tutoring. If you are
interested, please contact Sr. Bernadette Campbell, OP - 416-1048 or call
the parish center at 252-7136.
Sr. Thoma's Exhibit
Sr. Thoma Swanson, a Dominican Sister and long time parishioner will
have her artwork on display at the Martin de Porres Center. Sr. Thoma
also conducts the Baptismal Preparation Class for our Latino
parishioners. Please come and support Sr. Thoma by viewing her
creations. View sample.
Authors in our Parish
Wayne and Anne Rapp, long time parishioners of St. Thomas the
Apostle Church and Rick Hatem have published a book,
Drawn to
Living Water, Twenty Years of Spiritual Discovery. This
is an exciting time and an exciting book for all of us as it
captures stories and the journeys of some people in this parish as
well as many other faith-filled people. Please congratulate Ann
and Wayne when you see them and purchase their book. All
proceeds benefit the non-for- profit organization The
Spiritulaity Network. This parish over the years has
utilized the incredible, gifted resources of Spirituality
Network - presenters for retreats and the annual Lenten
Journal, just to name a few. This book will make the perfect
gift for any adult! The cost of the book is $15.00. Please call
the rectory and speak with Kelly if you wish to purchase a copy.

Design of Website
Our parish family extends a heartfelt thanks to Mary Guilbert who designed our
website and will host it through her company
webworkohio.com
Mary, a deeply spiritual woman and a perfectionist we might add worked closely
with Jaime Berry and Charles (Charlie) Brown to get this long awaited project
off the ground and flying. We are all proud of the work done on this website and
are determined to continue to keep it current as our parish continues grow and
change. Please keep Mary and all of her good works in your prayers. |
